Description

This exhibition includes 48 photographs-- twelve each by contemporary American photographers Linda Conner, Rick Dingus, Steve Fitch, and Charles Roitz. There photographs suggest the mystery of the ancient drawings and the special relationship these drawings have to landscape in which they are found. They suggest the power the images may have for their creators, and the power they continue to convey to modern viewers. Arranged by Thomas W. Southall, curator of photography at the Spencer Museum, the exhibition is scheduled in conjunction with the centennial celebration of Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence. Anthropologist Polly Schaafsma of the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe will speak at the exhibition opening on January 20.
