American painting of the 1960s and 1970s encompassed a wide variety of reactions and responses to Abstract Expressionism. This exhibition of 18 works selected form the collection of the St. Louis Art Museum illustrates many of the extremely diverse currents which characterized these two decades. In addition to influential Pop and Op masters such as Dine, Warhol, and Poons, leading figures of Color Field Abstraction (Noland and Olitski) , Minimalism (Twombly), and Photorealism (Flack) are also included. This rich survey ranges from Wayne Thiebaud's whimsical Cafeteria Counter (1961) to the classically austere Ocean Park #86 (1975) by Richard Diebenkorn.
