  • All Seasons and Every Light: Nineteenth Century American Landscapes from the Collection of Elias Lyman Magoon
  • 14-Jun-1987 - 26-Jul-1987
  • Kress Gallery, Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas

The paintings and oil sketches in this exhibition present a serene view of nature, a taste for quiet moments, or the modestly beautiful. These fifty-five works selected from the collection of Elias Lyman Magoon reveal a vision of an America pristine, fair, with strong religious convictions. The Hudson River School is represented by Thomas Cole, Asher Brown Durand, Frederic Edwin Church, Charles Herbert Moore, Homer Dodge Martin, and George Inness, among others. A catalogue is available. This exhibition has been organized by the Vassar College Art Gallery in New York, where the Magoon collection has been the pride of the Gallery since 1865.
