  • Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas

A photographic profile of a diverse group of 75 remarkable women who made their mark on American society. Pulitzer Prize winning photographer (and Kansas native) Brian Lanker undertook this two-year documentary project to photograph women from all sections of the country in all walks of life, including artists, entertainers, teachers, lawyers, activists, and athletes. The exhibition contained large scale black-and-white photographs and written excerpts rom interviews with each woman. Organized by the Corcoran Gallery of Art and circulated by the American Federation of Arts. Made possible by a generous grant by the Professional Photography Division of Eastman Kodak Company. The exhibition photographs were printed by Gary Schneider of Schneider/Erdman, New York City. Supported at the Spencer Museum by Volume Shoe Corporation, a division of the May Department Stores Company and by the Frueauff Foundation.
