One of the finest private collections of American paintings, the Baekeland Collection includes landscaped, still lifes, and scenes of everyday life from a collection formed according to the taste of its owners, who, atypically, collected without the help of professional advisors. This exhibition comprises fifty-eight paintings by such artists as Albert Bierstadt, Alfred Thompson Bricher, John William Casilear, Samuel Colman, George Forster, John F. Francis, Edward Moran, William McGregor Paxton, William Trost Richards, and Worthington Whittredge. Organized by the Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham, Alabama.
