Baldwin Lee, a Chinese-American native of Brooklyn, New York, is professor of photography at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. For five years Lee photographed throughout the southern U.S. in an ambitious project to "investigate what was going on along the roadsides and behind the facades" in towns such as Enigma, Georgia, and Greasy Corner, Arkansas. This is the first comprehensive presentation of that body of work. The show was organized by the University of Michigan Museum of Art, with support at the Spencer from the Kansas Arts Commission.
