  • White Gallery, Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas

A selection of 70 prints and one album from a collection that once encompassed 18 volumes of prints which for over two centuries were in the celebrated library at Althorp, the country home of the Earls Spencer in Northampton, England. The Spencer Albums were assembled in Paris in the early 18th century by Jean and Pierre-Jean Mariette, father and son, who were then the premier print dealers in Europe. Nine of these volumes were acquired by the Harvard University Art museums in 187 and this exhibition was drawn from them by Majorie B. Cohn, Carl Weyerhaeuser Curator of Prints at the Fogg Museum at Harvard. Included are works by Jaques Callot, Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, Claude de Lorraine, Adriaen van Ostade, and Jusepe de Ribera.
