A Philopena is a present or gift made as a forfeit in a social game. Commonly a person finding a nut with two kernels eats one and gives the other to a person of the opposite sex, and then one gives the other a present upon the happening of a condition agreed upon, as being last to say Philopena at their next meeting, or being the first to say yes or no in reply to the other.
