Description

Half length portrait of a man in 3/4 profile. He wears a small standing ruff and fur lined garment (tabard). He gesticulates with his left hand and his right hand hold open several pages of a book. The shallow space behind the man contains books partially obscured by a draped cloth. The inscription identifies the man as Justus Lipsius.
