Description

Half length portrait of a man in 3/4 profile. He stands in front of a cloud-filled sky and seascape with a ship along the horizon on the right side of the composition. The man looks over his right shoulder, which is perpendicular to the picture plane. He holds a curled piece of paper in his right hand. The inscription identifies the man as Andreas van Ertvelt.
