Portrait of a man in 3/4 profile; the man looks off to the left of the composition. He wears a falling ruff and voluminous draped outer garment. The man is shown half length and his left hand rests on the edge of a balustrade or plinth. The inscription identifies the man as the Antwerp painter Frans Francken.
