Catalogue raisonné

Japanese wagtail (Motacilla grandis) on a lotus pod in bottom right quadrant. Flowering iris in top left quadrant and yellow mizunawa plant (Nuphar Japonicum) across center, bamboo branch also present at far right. Wagtail and iris form counterweight. Lotus pod in interesting style with no outlines. From book series of rare Chinese birds imported by Chinese merchants, yet the wagtail is native to Japan.
