Description

The general Yorimasa, commander of the Minamoto forces, commits seppuku (ritual suicide) at the Byōdōin after his defeat to the Taira forces at the Uji River in 1180. At bottom center, farewell poem is written on fan. Upper right corner, cartouche by priest Kisen (Kisen Hōshi) describes Uji mountain.
