Description

Horizontal composition of interior scene with four women. Two women at right kneel on tatami mat, woman at left kneels, while second woman from left reclines. Woman at far right holds a pipe, woman second from right holds a fan, woman at far left holds a book. Small service tray and fan on mat in front of women. Tokonoma at upper right, part of a hanging scroll is visible. Folding screen at upper left. Women are dressed in many layers of elaborate kimono.
