Description

A few miles east of Topeka on Highway 40 is a stone dwelling which was built for the accommodation of early pioneers. Because of the fine spring of cold water on the eastern bank of Deer Creek, the place became a favorite camping ground with the prairie schooner tourists of territorial days. One of the most conspicuous features is the giant oak tree towering above the house, its roots clinging firmly to the bank.
