This stone building at Pawnee on Highway 40 housed the first Kansas territorial legislature only four days and then stood neglected more than fifty years. On August 2, 1928, the old building was memorialized as "Kansas' first territorial capital." A custodian is in charge at all times and the building is maintained for inspection by the Kansas State Historical Society.
