Terracotta vessel with a description in French stamped onto its sides: "Cette borne renferme une parcelle de terre sacrée de France." A cork stopper and an inscription are on the bottom. The inscription reads: "LES POTIERS LORRAINS ETAIN PRES VERDUN FRANCE" (The potters of Étain, Lorraine near Verdun, France).
