After attending nonviolent workshops led by Reverend James Lawson, Diane Nash became the leader of the lunch counter
sit-ins in Nashville, Tennessee. One day, Nash asked the Nashville mayor, “Do you feel it is wrong to discriminate against a person solely on the basis of their race or color?” On May 10, 1960, Nashville became the first southern city to desegregate lunch counters.
