Merlin sits on the ground with his eyes closed, legs stretched out in front of him, and his left elbow resting on tree roots. He is using his left hand to prop up his head. His right arm is across his waist and he is holding a thin stick. He has a long, wavy beard that reaches to his waist and is wearing robes, a cap, and sandals. Vivien is just behind him and is quickly moving away from him. Her arms are outstretched in front of her and a short cape billowing out behind her. She is wearing a long-sleeved dress that is form-fitting to her hips. Her feet are bare. The two figures are in the hollow of a very large tree¬the opening is higher that Vivien’s head and wide enough to fit two people. The tree trunk is gnarled and knotty. A forest is in the background.
