Description

An architectural view looking towards the fountain (chateau d'eau) of the southwest facade of the Palais Longchamp. A semi-circular arcade leads to the central grotto structure, which frames the pinnacle of the fountain. The sculpture consists of three female figures; the central figure holds a staff while two other female figures flank either side. Four bulls then emerge from the water, their hooves reaching out past the confines of the basin. Water flows from the initial basin down a cascading waterfall into the larger basin on the ground level. A balustrade framed by two lion-esque figures guarding their kill forms the barrier of the lower basin. In the central foreground of the picture frame stands a man in a top hat facing the water.
