Description

Cast bronze sculpture of a woman's head, identified as an Iyoba or Queen Mother. The metal has a dark brown patina and there are also areas of green patina and a rough, grayish texture in the recessed areas. The figure is wearing a headdress that is long and pointed at the top and curves forward slightly. The headdress has a netlike texture of intersecting lines in diamond shapes. Over each ear there are four long fringes that extend vertically and have a small round piece at the bottom. The face has exaggerated features, rounded cheeks, and is angled so that the chin is slightly forward. The neck is covered with thin, concentric rings.
