Firemen in boats in lower foreground fight bright flames on a larger boat, with billows of smoke extending into the UR corner; the Seine is printed in saturated red; on its opposite bank, Notre-Dame cathedral fills the upper left portion of the image. Light blue-gray spotlight cuts diagonally across the red sky behind the cathedral.
