A man with dark hair and handlebar mustache, wearing white breaches and tall black boots beneath a red jacket adorned with many military medals, embroidery, and epaulets, stands in front of a British “Union Jack” Flag. The man, identified as British Field Marshal Horatio Herbert Kitchener, holds a baton of office in his right hand and a sword is visible hanging from his left hip. Kitchener served as the British Secretary of State for war beginning in 1914. His image was spread through both photographs and printed recruitment posters featuring his mustachioed face.
