This carved wooden mask depicts a woman with a smooth oval face. Her pleasant features are enhanced by her smiling eyes and mouth. Black paint delineates her tidy hairline.

Known as a Koomote, this Noh theatre mask represents a young woman in the first blush of womanhood and embodies traditional Heian feminine beauty: shaved eyebrows, blackened teeth, and neat hair.
