“C.A. Seward: Artist and Draftsman,” Feb-2010, Kate Meyer
To make Adobe Village and the other relief prints in this exhibition, Seward prepared a drawing much like he did for his lithographs and transferred it to the surface of a piece of linoleum mounted on wood to give it stability. He then used chisels to carve into the surface of the linoleum block. In the resulting print, the spaces where we see the white of the paper represent what Seward carved away
