There are several motifs that indicate this brick from its origin in Han-period tomb relief, particularly excavated from Sichuan province; two watch towers, a pair of birds with a long tail, two standing guardians facing each other with a flagpole. This type of tower gate usually stood at cemeteries, marking the entrance of the graveyard.
