The strip of light brown leather is rounded on the ends and reinforced with a second layer of leather at the ends. The second layer is held in place with metal rivets. There is a hole through both layers. A short length of plant fiber rope is threaded through each hole and knotted at the end.

This kind of harness is specific to San Marcos, rather than all Valley Zapotec peoples.
