The deer figure's head and antlers are covered with green glaze. The body (minus the legs) is scored to hold seed paste. The body and legs are left the natural, unglazed clay. There is a hole on the back of the neck.

A paste of chia seeds and water are spread over the corrugate surfaces. Water is put inside the animal and the chia seeds grow into the deer's "fur."
