Description
Inscriptions/Signature

This is a sculpture of a stylized female form, identified as a kokeshi doll. It has a round head with the hair carved into a top knot and with a curved body that does not have carved arms and legs. It is mounted on a round base. The figure's hair and facial features are indicated with painted lines. She is wearing a kimono indicated by light blue lines. The figure is decorated with blocks of dark blue and gold stripes, blocks of red with white and gold flowers, and clusters of trees. There is a Japanese character on each "shoulder." The top knot has a band of red with white dots and a small wooden stick, which has been broken. There are two Japanese characters on the base, possibly the artist's signature. Her head wobbles on a wooden peg.
