The trousers are made of unbleached cotton with red vertical stripes and faint red horizontal stripes. One leg is shorter than the other. There is fringe at the ends of the legs. The legs have five rows of embroidery. The top, middle and bottom rows are blocks of color: green, red, blue, orange, bright pink, bright blue and red-purple. The remaining two rows are blocks of the same colors in a chevron design.

The trousers from each village around Lake Atitlan have a distinctive decorative pattern.
