Description

This is a bandolier bag with a fully beaded strap and two beaded panels on the front of the bag. The bag and strap are not currently attached.

The strap (2007.1508.b) has an off-white and red striped cotton back, red cotton edging, and black wool at the ends. The beaded panel has a field of colorless beads and a thin outline of light blue beads, and a stripe of light blue across the center of the panel, dividing it into two sections. One section has three clusters of two flowers (one pink with a darker pink outline and one blue, with a darker blue outline) and two-tone green leaves. There are two two-tone yellow flowers as well. The stem is dark blue with pink and green leaves on one side and medium blue and brown leaves on the other. The second section has three clusters of two three petal flowers, in three tones of pink, two tones of green with yellow. The stem is dark blue with green and pink leaves on one side and two tone blue leaves on the other.

The front of the bag (2007.1506.a) has a border of dark yellow ribbon with red beads criss-crossing it. The ribbon borders the entire top panel, but not the bottom edge of the bottom panel. The top panel has a field of black velvet with a beaded floral design. The stem is white with flower outlines of green, yellow, and light blue. Three flower centers are metal beads. The larger bottom panel has a field of colorless beads and a thin border of dark blue beads. There are three flowers in the bottom left corner. These are yellow with a medium blue outline. The leaves are pink and dark blue and there is a scale-like pattern of dark blue and green. The stem is dark blue with leaves of light and medium blue. There is a pink leaf in the bottom right corner and a pink leaf with a yellow flower in the upper left corner. The upper right corner has a green shamrock and a dark green leaf.

The bottom of the bag has small beaded panels that hang like fringe. Each panel has tufts of yarn on the bottom edge. The panels all have a field of colorless beads. The center two fringes are the only designs that don't repeat--a series of joined light green diamonds with a single dark green outline on one and a blue flower on the other. Laterally, the next has nine green diamonds, the next is a single large diamond of yellow and black checkerboard and the outermost is a checkerboard of many colors against the colorless field.
