Red and white patchwork quilt with a rectangular centerpiece containing a vase with flowers surrounded by birds. In two scrolls near the bottom of the vase is written, "Elizabeth Hart Warwick Bucks, Co., Penn. 1848." The center medallion of this quilt was printed in Philadelphia by John Hewson at the first successful cotton printing manufactory in the U.S. Center medallions such as this one were popular with quilt makers, and it is mainly through quilts that examples of these early cottons have survived. The calicoes of the 8-point stars are probably contemporary with the date of the quilt.
