Quilt with eight inch brown and cream chintz blocks lined with muslin. Chintz is of the early Toile de Jouy type with floral sprigs. Cream fringe around the edges. The expensive and fashionable block-printed floral chintzes on both light and dark grounds were popular in the last decades of the 18th century. This quilt is sewn with coarse thread, and the hand-made fringe was probably added at a later date. According to records, this quilt once belonged to the family of Alexander Hamilton.
