Description

This is a wooden box (2007.6086.a) with the contents of a medicine kit (2007.6086.b-i).

The box is oblong with a tapered bottom on the short sides. The hinged lid is flat, held in place with two buckskin ties, with a third on the opposite side for closure. It is brown.

The feather with ribbons (2007.6086.b) appears to once have been brown and white with a long light colored tassel of buckskin fringe attached at the top. There is a tassel of two green ribbons topped with a thimble and white or orange beads on a short strip of buckskin attached at the top of the tassel and feather combintation.

The bundles (2007.6086.c and d) of ribbons and feathers are bundled with buckskin ties and wrapped in animal skin with remnants of white fur. Part c has red, yellow, purple, and green ribbons visible at the end of the bundle. Part d has red and green ribbons visible at the side of the bundle where the animal skin meets. It is held closed with a paper wrapping.

The small buckskin bundle (2007.6086.e) is tied closed with a strip of buckskin.

The small buckskin bundle (2007.6086.f) is tied closed with a strip of buckskin and has been rubbed with a green pigment.

The bundle of ribbons (2007.6086.g) is heavily faded, but was probably the same colors as above. They are tangled together.

The root (2007.6086.h) is a short cylinder. It is brown.

The root (2007.6086.i) is longer and very irregular. It is brown.
