The square of cotton cloth is made from two panels dyed a very dark blue. There are small light blue circles on either end from being tied off while dyeing, a technique known as plangi. The rows of diamonds with vertical or horizontal ridges are stitched in; some are released leaving a light blue line and some are still stitched.
