The girls are wearing light colored dresses and bonnets and the boys are wearing light colored shirts, dark trousers, and dark hats. Some of the children are holding gardening tools like rakes and hoes. In the background there are several very tall trees, with sparse leaves. On the facing left edge, there is another boy or young man seated on one of the branches of a tree.
