Photograph of a woman and students, identified as students from the Fort Lewis school, working in a garden. In the foreground is a rectangular plot marked with stakes and rows of short plants. On the facing left side of the plot is a kneeling woman wearing a white dress and white hat and next to her is a girl, also kneeling, wearing a white dress and dark bonnet. On the facing right side of the plot are two more girls kneeling in the plot, wearing long, light colored dresses. Around the perimeter of the garden is a low, wire fence and gathered around the fence are several more children standing and watching, some pointing at the girls in the garden. Most of the boys wear dark vests, trousers, and hats, and white long-sleeved shirts. Most of the girls wear long cotton dresses and bonnets.
