The fan has two wooden handles that hide the component slats when closed. When open, the fan is round. Most of the slats are light natural, but there are purple slats at regular intervals, which (depending on location) are flanked by yellow or flank the yellow slats. There are two green slats, opposite the handles when open. There is a single wooden peg through all the slats and handles to allow the fan to open and close. It is kept in place with string.
