Description

The gourd-shaped coiled basket (2007.1397.a) has a lid (2007.1397.b) that has leather whipstitches around the rim. Leather stitching is also present around the rim of the basket. The braided leather band at the base of the neck serves as a handle and at base of body it is joined by a net-like weaving of leather strips.

It was used to store milk. The enzymes from the fermented milk will remain inside the container, so when new milk is added, they act as a starter for the fermentation process.
