The short length of wood is larger in the middle and tapers at either end. The hole through one end has a short piece of string tied in a loop. The widest point on the wood is a dividing point: one end is covered in animal skin and the other end (with the string) is colored dark brown. Most of the animal skin is now gone, leaving the natural color of the wood exposed.
