The oval shaped fan blade has a curving handle. The blade is made from narrow slats of bamboo that overlap slightly. It is edged with two bands of openwork created from looped string and wrapped paper. The center of the blade and its point of attachment are decorated with teardrop shapes in red or dark blue velvet on both sides. The handle is wrapped with wide stripes of pink and pale green string. There is a small silver hook-like projection from end of handle next to a knob wrapped with pink thread and flat brown strips.
