Description
Inscriptions/Signature

This is an octagonal silver-colored metal box with a lid. The top of the lid (2007.0217.b) is attached to rim of lid with silver strips. The design embossed in the center is a four petal flower surrounded by a ring of raised hemispheres, which are surrounded by a scalloped design with small dots and leaf shapes.

The box (2007.0217.a) has a field of small dots, scallops with leaf shapes around the bottom of the box, and a band of raised crescents just under the rim of the lid.

Women and men carried personal lime containers like these along on vists to friends and neighbors. The other ingredients for the betel chew, tobacco and the betel nut, were carried in the fold of a person's wraparound or in a second container.
