The metal adze has a wooden handle. Most of the adze is the flat rectacular blade that extends backward to form the base. There is a metal strut on either end of a cylindrical wooden handle, with a wide groove in either end to receive the thick string wrapping that holds the handle to the metal portion. The metal portions are nearly black, and the handle is brown.
