The coconut drum has a hole at the top and leather stretched across the bottom. The handle is narrow and ridged adjacent to the coconut, but is larger and cylindrical for most of its length. There is a metal band at either end of the cylindrical portion. Long black animal hair stretches from the drum head to a cord wrapped near the end of the handle. A small piece of wood hangs from the handle by a string.
