A black-and-white woodcut print of a bird’s eye view of a rice field. The rice field is divided by two crossing ridges into 4 blocks, resembling the Chinese character “tian,” or “rice field.” In the rice field are young rice seedlings planted in parallel rows. Groups of tadpoles are swimming in the fields. A dark patch of shadow appears in the upper right of the composition, and another on the lower left corner.
