Wood covered with red lacquer and paint, yoseqi zukuri (multiple wood block construction), inset glass eyes, attachment for metal mandorla on back of figure. Statue represents the guardian of women in childbirth. The separate two-part base appears to be a mate to the base for the statue of the guardian figure L1988.003.
