Printed in black ink. Border design by Vallotton, text in French set within border is entitled, “JOURS D’HIVER.” Border above features circular clouds, some white, some black, and some gray with tonalities produced by circular, regularly spaced cuts. The sky is a solid black where revealed-primarily on the upper left corner. The clouds extend to the lower one-third of the border where they are overlapped by solid white forms outlined in black that resemble icicles. In the lower left corner is the silhouette of a black cat; to its right is another fully white cat outlined in black. The cats are represented on a surface of cobblestones or bricks, which are white to the center of the page as though illuminated and increasingly black to the left edge. In the upper right of the border, a small house with a snow-covered roof and lit windows is depicted. Beneath it are solid white and black curvilinear forms representing snow-covered terrain and probably rocks. Starting just below the half-way point in the left border are forms indicative of long drops of melting snow.
