Amekawaya Gihei kicks away his father-in-law Oda Ryōchika, who has just told him that he will mary Gihei's wife to a wealthy merchant. Gihei's son Yoshimeta at right playing kabuki with apprentice Igo who pretends to be Ashiwa as played by Danjūrō.
The kabuki game interlude is not in standard version of the play.
