Black-and-white, knee-length portrait of a man (identified as William Henry Fox Talbot, English inventor of photographic processes) in three-quarters view. He is turned toward the left side of the image and he is seated in a chair. His proper right arm is resting on a ledge and his left arm is resting on an arm of the chair. He is balding on top of his head and he has a small mustache. He is wearing a dark suit with a white, collared shirt and a black bowtie. His right leg is crossed over his left leg.
