Description

Vertical composition of a woman and two girls. The woman at the center is an oiran (high class courtesan). She wears an elaborate black kimono, with her obi (belt) tied in the front. Her hair is full of many pins. On either side of her stand her young apprentices, dressed in matching kimono, and with metal pins in their hair. Behind the three figures are hanging scrolls, and a screen. They stand on a balcony, in front of them at the bottom of the composition is a red railing. The floor is green, indicating a new tatami mat. Red cartouche at upper right, text and two seals at lower left.
